Taste of the Danforth
August 7 – 9, 2026
About
Three-day Greek food festival on the Danforth — Toronto's historic Greektown. Started 1994 as a small block party; now 1.6M attendees over a single weekend, the biggest cultural festival in the city after Caribana.
Danforth Avenue closes from Broadview to Jones. Family-run tavernas roll out grills onto the sidewalk, Greek dance troupes perform on outdoor stages, and a glass of red wine costs five dollars from a paper cup.
When
Friday Aug 7 (5pm – midnight). Saturday Aug 8 (12pm – midnight — peak day). Sunday Aug 9 (12pm – 9pm).

What to expect
- ●Souvlaki everywhere. Octopus, loukoumades (Greek donuts), gyros
- ●Greek dancing on five outdoor stages
- ●Long lines at the famous spots — Astoria, Messini — especially Saturday
- ●Live bouzouki, family vibes, beer in plastic cups
Insider tips
- 01Friday night is the locals' night — calmer crowds, same food
- 02Astoria's grilled octopus is the single best thing on the strip — get there before 6pm
- 03Walk east-to-west. The best independent spots are between Pape and Logan
- 04Eat at off-hours (3pm or 9pm) to dodge the worst lines
- 05The dance stage at Carlaw is where the locals end up after their second carafe of wine
